UNESA Campus 5 Successfully Hosts Community Iftar Gathering: Strengthening Academic–Government Synergy and Community Harmony
Campus UNESA 5, March 6, 2026 — Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 successfully held a vibrant Community Iftar Gathering in front of the main gate of Campus 5 on Friday (March 6, 2026). Carrying the theme “Weaving Ramadan Harmony: Synergy between the Academic Community of UNESA Campus 5 and the Local Government in Strengthening Social Care and Shared Blessings,” the event brought together academia, government leaders, local communities, students, and entrepreneurs in a warm atmosphere of Ramadan togetherness.
The event was attended by the Rector of Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., members of the university’s Board of Trustees (MWA) and Academic Senate (SAU), and university leaders. Representatives from the Government of Magetan Regency were also present, including Hj. Nanik Sumantri, S.Pd., M.Pd., along with members of the Forkopimda of Magetan Regency, local school communities, parents living around the campus area, youth organizations (Karang Taruna), and the broader Magetan community.
In her remarks, Hj. Nanik Sumantri, S.Pd., M.Pd., Regent of Magetan, emphasized that the theme of the event carries strategic meaning and reflects the importance of collaboration in regional development.

“This theme holds strategic significance. It is not merely ceremonial, but reflects the collaborative spirit needed for the development of Magetan Regency. Higher education institutions play a crucial role as centers for knowledge development, character building, and agents of social change,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector II of Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Prof. Dr. Bachtiar Syaiful Bachri, M.Pd., highlighted that the gathering symbolized genuine collaboration between universities and society.
“This is not simply a gathering for breaking the fast together, but a tangible manifestation of synergy between higher education institutions and the community,” he explained.
The Rector of Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., also expressed his appreciation to the academic community of UNESA Campus 5 for successfully organizing the event and building meaningful connections with the local community.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the entire academic community of UNESA Campus 5 for their extraordinary effort in organizing this community iftar gathering. This event reflects the beauty of togetherness among the community, lecturers, the Forkopimda, the Regent, and the Government of Magetan Regency. A university essentially belongs to the community,” he stated.
The event was enlivened by a series of cultural and artistic performances that strengthened the spirit of unity and local cultural appreciation. The program featured traditional martial arts (silat) and traditional dance performances, followed by a rebana performance, as well as musical performances from a student band and a lecturers’ band. These performances created a lively and meaningful Ramadan atmosphere while showcasing the talents and creativity within the UNESA academic community.
Another highlight of the event was the community bazaar featuring local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs/UMKM). The bazaar provided a platform for local entrepreneurs to promote their products and interact directly with visitors. Through this initiative, the university contributed to stimulating local economic activity while strengthening collaboration with surrounding communities.
The gathering also served as a platform for student creativity and entrepreneurship, allowing students to present innovative products and participate in community-based activities. Such initiatives encourage leadership development, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit among students.
In the spirit of compassion and solidarity during Ramadan, the event also included a social charity program providing support for 250 orphans, reflecting UNESA’s strong commitment to humanitarian values and community care.

Overall, the Community Iftar Gathering at UNESA Campus 5 successfully fostered meaningful collaboration between academia, government, and society. The event strengthened institutional partnerships, empowered local businesses, showcased student creativity, and reinforced universities' role as active contributors to community development.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting inclusive education, community empowerment, economic growth, reduced inequalities, and strong partnerships for sustainable development. Through this harmonious Ramadan gathering, UNESA Campus 5 once again demonstrated that a university is not only a center of knowledge but also a living partner of society, growing together, empowering together, and sharing blessings together.
