UNESA 5 Campus PKM-VGK Team Secures 2026 PKM Funding with Innovative Solution for Marine Microplastic Processing
UNESA 5 Campus proudly celebrates the achievement of its PKM-Video Gagasan Konstruktif (PKM-VGK) team, which has successfully passed the funding selection stage of the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM) Funding Scheme organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
The funded project, entitled “MARICYCLE: An Advanced Electrostatic-Thermochemical Integrated System for Marine Microplastic Processing Towards the Restoration of Indonesia’s Maritime Ecosystems,” presents an innovative solution to one of the most pressing environmental challenges facing Indonesia and the world today marine microplastic pollution. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the project proposes an integrated electrostatic and thermochemical technology system designed to process microplastic waste while supporting the restoration and sustainability of marine ecosystems.
The achievement reflects the dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit of students from different academic disciplines who worked together to develop a constructive and impactful idea. The PKM-VGK team consists of Novita Nurkhasanah from the Bachelor’s Program in Management, Nadzila Zahra Aprilia from the Bachelor’s Program in Management, Rendy Syahputra Riyadi from the Bachelor’s Program in Informatics Engineering, Aab Abdul Jamalul Lael from the Bachelor’s Program in Law, and Sarah Amaylia from the Bachelor’s Program in Informatics Engineering.
The team was guided by their lecturer, Ika Febriana Wati, M.Pd., whose mentorship and academic support contributed significantly to the successful preparation of the proposal. Through continuous collaboration and rigorous idea development, the team was able to formulate a project that addresses real-world environmental issues while demonstrating strong innovation potential.

Being selected for funding under the 2026 PKM Funding Scheme is a significant accomplishment, considering the highly competitive national selection process involving student proposals from universities across Indonesia. This success highlights the growing capacity of UNESA 5 Campus students to generate innovative solutions, conduct interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to national development priorities through research-based creativity and problem-solving.
The MARICYCLE project also supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By addressing marine pollution through technological innovation, the project demonstrates how student creativity can contribute to environmental sustainability and the protection of Indonesia’s maritime resources.
The entire academic community of UNESA 5 Campus extends its warmest congratulations to the PKM-VGK team and their supervisor for successfully securing funding from the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
