Sarangan, October 16, 2025 — The serene morning atmosphere at Sarangan Lake became even moreinspiring today as the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. H.Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), took up his brushes to paint alongside 20 FineArts students from Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA).
The event was held near the lake’s edge, wherethe natural beauty of Mount Lawu and the shimmering water reflected a perfectharmony between nature and art. Under the cool and bright mountain air,President SBY expressed his joy in painting at the lakeside.
“The weathertoday is bright and pleasantly cool, just perfect for painting,” said PresidentSBY. “The air is fresh, and because it’s slightly cold, the paint doesn’t drytoo quickly. It gives us more time to mix and layer the colors precisely.”
During the session, President SBY created arealist impressionist painting depicting the tranquil beauty of Lake Saranganand its surrounding mountains. This style, known as realist impressionism, combines the accuracy and detail of realism with the emotional light and colorof impressionism, resulting in a vivid yet natural portrayal of scenery.

The UNESA Fine Arts students joined in bypainting the same landscape from their own perspectives, creating a warm andcollaborative atmosphere between the national figure and the young artists. Thestudents expressed their excitement at the rare opportunity to paint togetherwith the former president. The session was filled with enthusiasm, quietconcentration, and admiration. “It was an unforgettable experience to paintwith Mr. SBY,” said a Fine Arts student from UNESA.
