Magetan, Indonesia – Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 successfully organized the 2026 Journal Bootcamp on July 30–31, 2026, at the MG1.01.07 Smart Classroom. The two-day program served as a strategic initiative to enhance the quality of scholarly journal management while fostering a stronger culture of academic publishing across the university.
The bootcamp brought together lecturers from across UNESA Campus 5 alongside student representatives from each study program, creating a collaborative learning environment that encouraged the exchange of knowledge and best practices in scientific publishing.
The training was delivered by experts from the Institute for Scientific Journal Management (LPK Pengelola Jurnal Ilmiah), Yogyakarta, who provided comprehensive sessions on managing journals through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Participants explored key aspects of journal administration, including journal configuration, user management, editorial workflow, peer-review management, and article publication in accordance with recognized academic publishing standards.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in both theoretical discussions and intensive hands-on practice, allowing them to gain practical experience in operating OJS and managing editorial processes efficiently and professionally. Interactive discussions also enabled participants to share challenges and solutions related to journal governance, publication ethics, and strategies for improving journal quality and visibility.
Beyond strengthening the technical competencies of journal managers, the bootcamp highlighted UNESA Campus 5's commitment to cultivating a sustainable research and publication ecosystem. By involving both lecturers and students, the program promoted greater awareness of scholarly communication while encouraging students to become actively engaged in academic writing and scientific publication from an early stage of their academic journey.
