UNESA Campus 5 Opens ICAPSTURE 2026, Advancing Global Collaboration in Applied Physics for a Sustainable Future
Magetan, Indonesia – Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 officially inaugurated the 1st International Conference on Applied Physics for Sustainable Future (ICAPSTURE 2026) on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, at Grand H.A.P Kintamani Hotel & Villa, Sarangan, Magetan. Held under the theme "Integrating Applied Physics for Sustainable Future," the conference marks a significant milestone in UNESA's internationalization agenda by bringing together academics, researchers, scientists, educators, and government representatives to foster scientific collaboration and innovation for sustainable development.
The opening ceremony reflected strong collaboration between higher education institutions and regional stakeholders. Representatives from the Government of Magetan Regency, education authorities, school leaders, and the academic community joined the event, highlighting a shared commitment to strengthening research, innovation, and educational partnerships.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Regent of Magetan, the Vice Regent of Magetan expressed the local government's appreciation for UNESA Campus 5's initiative in organizing an international scientific conference in the region.
"We are truly grateful that UNESA Campus 5 has brought an international conference to Magetan. We warmly welcome future collaborations in any form, as partnerships between universities and local government are essential for regional development and the advancement of education and innovation," the Vice Regent stated.

The statement underscored the Magetan Regency Government's openness to expanding strategic cooperation with UNESA in education, research, community engagement, and innovation-driven development.
Representing the Rector of Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Prof. Rooselyna Ekawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that ICAPSTURE 2026 reflects the university's commitment to fulfilling its role as a higher education institution with a global outlook.
"This international conference represents UNESA's commitment as a higher education institution to advancing research, promoting academic excellence, and strengthening international collaboration that contributes to sustainable development," she remarked.
She further highlighted that international scientific forums such as ICAPSTURE provide valuable opportunities for researchers to disseminate knowledge, establish global partnerships, and accelerate innovation across scientific disciplines.

Following the ceremonial opening, participants attended keynote sessions delivered by internationally renowned experts. The conference featured Prof. Dr. Michael Philip from Monash University, Australia, Prof. dr hab. inż. Jacek Ryl from Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, and Prof. Paulus Insap Santosa, M.Sc., Ph.D. from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Their presentations explored current developments in applied physics, interdisciplinary research, and emerging technologies supporting sustainable development.
Complementing the keynote addresses, ICAPSTURE 2026 also featured three distinguished invited speakers who brought perspectives from government, international education, and academic research. They were Dr. A. Amiruddin, Director of the Electricity Program Development at Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM); Assoc. Prof. Toh Tin Lam from the National Institute of Education, Singapore; and Prof. Nadi Suprapto from Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Their participation broadened the discussion by connecting scientific research with educational practice, public policy, and technological implementation.

Throughout the first day, participants engaged in discussions across a wide range of research areas, including computational physics, physics-informed artificial intelligence, renewable energy, advanced materials, smart sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT), biophysics, optics and photonics, environmental modeling, robotics, signal processing, and nuclear physics applications. These sessions demonstrated the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of applied physics and its strategic role in addressing global challenges through science and innovation.
As UNESA Campus 5's inaugural international conference in applied physics, ICAPSTURE 2026 represents more than an academic gathering. It reflects the university's vision of building a globally connected research ecosystem while strengthening partnerships among universities, government institutions, educators, and industry. The conference also supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by encouraging collaborative research and sustainable technological innovation.
The conference will continue on 6 August 2026 with parallel presentation sessions, where researchers from various institutions will present their latest findings and exchange ideas that are expected to inspire future interdisciplinary collaborations and scientific breakthroughs.
